Average Sunset Times In Bali
The time that the sun goes down in Bali doesn’t really change that much over the year, with the time being somewhere between 6 – 7 pm depending on the month. And although the sun actually setting is the star of the show, golden hour which leads up to it is the best part in my opinion!
This is when the sky slowly turns stunning shades of pink, orange and purple so I recommend arriving at your sunset spot at least an hour before if you can!
The Best Sunset Spots In Bali
There are lots of things that make Bali worth visiting but watching the sunset from one of its stunning locations is high on the list! You should definitely make sure you have time on your Bali itinerary to visit some of these spots! It’s my favourite way to end the day and below I’ve listed 11 of my top sunset locations for you to visit.
La Plancha, Seminyak Beach
Sure you could watch the sunset from anywhere along Seminyak Beach but La Plancha has the best atmosphere and if I could choose anywhere in Seminyak it would be here!
With colourful bean bags and umbrellas, your feet in the sand, good music and a view across the ocean, La Plancha Beach Bar is an awesome place to catch the sunset.
They have a whole range of tapas dishes and pizzas on their menu and some delicious cocktails to sip on while watching the sunset over the ocean. It does get busy here in the evening so I do recommend that you get here early or try visiting in Bali’s quieter months to beat the crowds.

Echo Beach, Canggu
Echo Beach is another stunning location to catch the sunset along the eastern coast of Bali.
This black sand beach is a popular spot for surfers and expats alike and has a chilled and laid-back vibe. As the sun dips below the horizon, you can sip on fresh coconuts or cold Bintangs from the local warungs while watching surfers glide across the waves.
If you’re looking for a more stylish experience, La Brisa Beach Club is a beautiful spot to enjoy a cocktail in a beachy bohemian setting. Make sure you reserve a space on the beach to get the best front-row views!
There are also tons of great restaurants and bars in the Canggu area so you won’t have to wander too far once the sun has gone down.

Munduk Moding Plantation, Munduk
Munduk is tucked away in the mountains of North Bali, so whichever direction you look, from wherever you are, the sunset views will be pretty awesome! This alone makes a trip to Munduk worth it. But, there is one place that stands out above the rest, Munduk Moding Plantation.
I actually stayed here for a few nights and it’s one of my top places to stay in Bali as well as having one of the best sunset views. Munduk Moding’s iconic infinity pool is perched high in the clouds and has sweeping views across the mountains. On a clear day, you can see the volcanoes in Java on the horizon.
You don’t have to stay at the plantation to be able to enjoy these views but you will need to book a day pass.

Sidemen Rice Terraces, Sidemen
The rice terraces in Sidemen (pronounced see-da-men) are a pretty special place to visit at any time of the day. They are much quieter and less touristic than the more popular Tegallalang Rice Terraces in Ubud, and Sidemen also sits in the shadow of Mount Agung.
But visiting the terraces during golden hour is when you’ll get some beautiful views. The rice paddies are coated in a golden glow and the silhouette of Mount Agung sits on the skyline.
If you plan on exploring the rice terraces (which I highly recommend!) it’s a good idea to hire a local guide. They can show you all the best locations and routes through the rice fields while telling you the history of the terraces.

Karang Boma Cliff, Uluwatu
Uluwatu has some of the most stunning views across the Indian Ocean so it absolutely had to be on the list!
Karang Boma Cliff, also simply called Uluwatu Cliff, is close to the famous Uluwatu Temple so you can easily visit both in one trip. I personally think Uluwatu Cliff is the better spot for sunset out of the two. Here is where you’ll have uninterrupted 180-degree views of the sun setting over the sea with the colours shimmering across the water.
The entrance fee to the cliff is 10k and you can park your scooter here. A word of caution, the cliff drop-off is steep, please be careful and don’t get too close to the edge.

Pura Lempuyang Luhur Temple, Karangasem
Many people flock to Pura Lempuyang Luhur Temple for sunrise but did you know it’s also a great sunset spot in Bali?
You’ve probably heard the stories of people having to queue for up to 3 hours just to get that Insta-worthy shot of the gates of heaven with Mount Agung perfectly placed in the background.
But surprisingly, sunset seems to be a much quieter time to visit and the views are just as good!
Whatever time you decide to visit, you’ll be given a queue number and when it’s your turn to take photos at the gates of heaven your number will be called.

Crystal Bay, Nusa Penida
I actually stumbled across Crystal Bay and had no idea what a beautiful spot it would be to watch the sunsets in Bali. I was only going to stop by for a bintang on the beach and ended up staying for a few hours!
The beach itself is dotted with little warungs and is also a great place to go snorkelling during the day. The bay faces west and as the sun sets it dips across the small rocky island that sits in the water turning the sky beautiful shades of red and orange.
The road leading up to Crystal Bay is lined with palm trees and you can get some really cool photos here too!

Jemeluk Bay, Amed
Jemeluk Bay in Amed is stunning in its own right and is one of Bali’s most underrated destinations. Its crystal clear water, lush jungle and volcanic black sand that lines its shores make it a rugged yet beautiful place to visit.
But what makes this location extra special, especially for sunset, is the towering backdrop of the mighty Mount Agung.
As Amed is set on the east coast of Bali the sun doesn’t set over the ocean, instead, you can sit on the black sandy beach with a bintang or coconut in hand and watch the sun disappear behind Bali’s tallest volcano.

Lovina Beach
Tucked away on Bali’s northern shores, Lovina is a peaceful escape from the hustle and bustle of the beaches along the west coast.
The ocean is dotted with traditional Balinese fishing boats and it’s well known for the dolphins that frequent its black sandy shores. Lovina is much more laid back than other locations in Bali and beach clubs are swapped out for local warungs and modest bars with bean bags scattered across the sand.
Warung Chill & Relax and Funky Place Beach Bar & Grill are two of the best spots to catch the sunset while listening to the waves lapping against the shore.

Lahangan Sweet, Karangasem
Perched on a mountain edge, Lahangan Sweet has sweeping views over a lush green valley filled with rice fields with what is arguably the best view of Mount Agung.
Various viewpoints are scattered around, each having different perspectives for you to take in the breathtaking views. From viewing platforms to charming wooden ‘treehouses,’ there are plenty of perfect spots to soak in the scenery at sunset.
The cost to visit Lahangan Sweet is 30k and although you can visit anytime, sunrise and sunset are the quietest. If you visit during the day and it’s busy there is a queueing system in place like at the gates of heaven.

Campuhan Ridge Walk, Ubud
One of my favourite walks near Ubud that’s just a stone’s throw from the centre of town is the Campuhan Ridge Walk.
Tucked between two rivers, the 2km walk along the ridge will give you stunning views across rice paddies, palm trees and thick jungle. The trail is relatively easy, is well maintained and has some sweet little cafes and art galleries near the end.
A great time to do the walk is around golden hour, before the sun actually sets. This coats the valley and ridge in a beautiful golden glow and is a good time to get some pictures.
The Campuhan Ridge Walk is a great place to visit at any time of the day, but there is no shade so earlier or later in the day will be the best time to visit. Make sure you bring, insect repellant, sunscreen and a torch with you.
