The Face Behind The Blog
Hi, I’m Charlie! An English girl who loves getting outdoors, slightly chaotic road trips, and has saved way too many vegan cafés on Google Maps.
Over the last 12+ years, I’ve lived in New Zealand, Australia and the UK, and travelled to over 45 countries in between.
If you’re searching for adventure that doesn’t feel generic, want travel tips that actually work, or just need help finding plant based food in places you didn’t think it existed, you’re in the right place!
On this blog, I share travel tips I’d give you if we were catching up over an oat milk latte (or a spicy marg) before your next trip.
You’ll find honest guides, unique places to stay, the best plant based cafes (and the ones to avoid), and real advice from someone who’s figured it out by getting it wrong a fair few times first.
Whether you’re planning a road trip, chasing nature, or just trying to travel in a way that feels more like you, I’m here to help!

Travel Destinations

Guatemala
Guatemala is somewhere I always find myself daydreaming about. What was meant to be a quick visit somehow turned into almost five weeks, and even then, I really didn’t want to leave. Climbing Acatenango and watching a volcano erupt right in front of me is easily one of my all-time favourite travel memories (and was totally worth the sore legs for days after).

Hungary
I’ve been to Budapest twice in the last few years, first with my friends, then with my partner, James. I’m not usually big on city breaks (I’ll pick a mountain or a beach over crowds any day), but Budapest completely won me over. Between the vegan food, the ruin bars, and the thermal baths, I honestly don’t know what more you could want.
I just can’t get enough of Iceland! I’ve been twice now, and I’m already dreaming about the next trip.
I spent nine days road-tripping the Ring Road in a campervan, exploring waterfalls, hiking through lava fields, and, unbelievably, witnessing the volcanic eruption at Litli-Hrútur in July 2023. I literally could not believe the perfect timing!
Next on my Iceland bucket list? Finally catching the Northern Lights!
I’ve spent over three months in Bali across a few different trips, and it’s still one of my favourite places to explore. Between the jungle hikes, sunrise surf spots, and ridiculously good food (seriously, the vegan food scene is the shizz), I just keep finding excuses to go back.
I’ve also spent a bit of time on Lombok, which feels like Bali’s quieter, more laid-back little sibling. Fewer crowds, slower pace, and just as beautiful.
Morocco might be in Africa, but it’s only a short flight from Europe, perfect for a bit of winter sun. I fell in love with the colours, the culture, and the slightly chaotic energy tucked behind the pink walls of Marrakech (in typical Charlie style, I kind of thrived in the madness).

Namibia
Namibia is different from anywhere else I’ve ever been. James and I spent three and a half weeks exploring in a 4×4 camper, sleeping under the stars and driving through endless desert landscapes. We spotted giraffes and oryx along the roadside, cooked dinner under a million stars, and fell in love with the feeling of total freedom.
I lived in New Zealand for almost two years and split my time between the North and South Islands, and honestly, I was in my element!
From road-tripping past snow-capped mountains in Queenstown to sipping a cold beer on the beach at Mount Maunganui, it’s one of the hardest places that I’ve ever had to leave. I literally can’t wait to go back and I still think about it all the time (especially lupin season!).
When I’m not off exploring somewhere new, I’m based in a lovely little town in Hertfordshire, England, just a stone’s throw from London. I’m a big fan of making the most of what’s on my doorstep — especially when the sun actually decides to show up (British summer, you’ve still got my heart).
And the best bit? A few hours on the train and you can be in Scotland, Wales, or hopping on a ferry to Ireland. Not too shabby, if you ask me!
Whenever I can squeeze in a stopover in the US, I head straight for the Southwest — it’s one of my favourite places to explore. I’ve done everything from beach days in Santa Monica and desert hikes in Joshua Tree to road-tripping through Monument Valley and late nights under the lights in Vegas. It’s a wild mix, but I love it!

Why I Blog
Before I book a trip, I’m that person deep in blog posts, saved Pinterest pins, and Google Maps lists. I want to know what’s worth seeing, how long I should stay, what to pack, and what to definitely avoid. Some of the best travel moments I’ve had are because someone online shared something helpful, and now I want to pass that on.
She Roams the Globe is my way of sharing honest tips, detailed guides, and real stories from the places I’ve been – the good, the chaotic, and the can’t-miss bits, plus a bunch of vegan spots I’ve loved along the way. If you’re into road trips, unique stays, and plant-based travel, you’ll feel right at home here.
And if I can help you avoid one travel fail because I’ve already made it, I’ll call that a win.
What you’ll find on this blog
My Journey
Back in 2013, I was 23, living in the UK, and had just booked a three-month backpacking trip through Southeast Asia and Australia with a couple of friends. I’d barely been away from home before, aside from the odd girly trip to Ibiza or an all-inclusive beach holiday, so three months felt huge. I honestly thought I’d be back before I’d even finished my travel-size shampoo.
Spoiler: I wasn’t.
That first trip changed everything.
We started in Thailand, and by the time we got to Australia, I was already working out how to stay even longer. I ended up getting a Working Holiday Visa and spent three months working on a banana farm in North Queensland — which was a whole experience in itself!
I spent the next couple of years working and travelling around Australia, and when my visa ran out, I was beyond gutted.
After a quick stop back in the UK, I packed my life into my backpack again and headed off on a two-year solo adventure, starting with six months in India, where I met James — my now partner — though for the first few years, we were in completely different time zones. I carried on travelling through Southeast Asia and eventually made my way across to Central America, making it all up as I went along.
Eventually, James and I ended up back in the UK at the same time and made the very quick decision to head off again… this time to New Zealand, where we lived for two years, until the dreaded C-word happened and we had to come home.
Since then, we’ve still explored some beautiful places together, from road-tripping through Iceland and the American Southwest to finding hidden gems right here on our doorstep in the UK. The adventures haven’t stopped… they’ve just taken a slightly different shape over the last couple of years.
Where Am I Now?
These days, James and I are living in a sweet little town in Hertfordshire, England. When we’re not planning our next trip, we’re off exploring the UK, and yes, I still get excited about a good road trip or finding a cosy cabin in the middle of nowhere.
Right now, we’re deep in planning mode for our next big adventure. Watch this space…
