See The Midnight Sun In Iceland
Iceland is known for its Northern Lights in winter, but summer brings something just as unforgettable, the Midnight Sun. With nearly 24 hours of daylight, the usual rush to fit everything in disappears. You can take your time exploring, whether that’s driving the Ring Road, checking out the Golden Circle, or getting off the beaten path in the Westfjords.
When we visited Iceland in July, seeing the Midnight Sun was a bucket list experience I’d been looking forward to. Standing outside at midnight with the sky still bright was a pretty awesome sight to see!

Visit The Rice Fields In Bali
Bali has plenty to offer, but walking through its iconic rice fields is something you shouldn’t skip. The lush green terraces, especially in places like Tegalalang or Sidemen, are a classic part of the island’s landscape and a great way to see a different side of Bali beyond the beaches.
Of course, there’s plenty more to do, you can spend your days relaxing on the beach, surfing, or sipping cocktails at one of the many beach clubs. You could even stay the night in a bamboo house!

Watch The Sunset In Santorini
This is one I haven’t managed to tick off my summer bucket list just yet, but it’s high up there. Watching the sunset in Santorini, with the sky glowing over the white and blue buildings, seems like the perfect way to end a day.
When I do make it there, I’d love to visit in the summer to experience it at its best. And while Santorini looks like a dream, there’s plenty more to explore. You can also hop between other Greek islands like Mykonos and Crete for even more stunning views, parties and beach days.

Visit the Lavender Fields In England
Yes, England has some pretty amazing lavender fields, who knew? You’ll find fields of purple dotted all over the country, from the Cotswolds to Yorkshire, and even Hitchin, which is just a short trip from London.
Visiting in the summer season means seeing the fields in full bloom, and many places even let you pick your own lavender to take home.

See Africa’s Wildlife Up Close on Safari
Going on safari isn’t just about spotting wildlife, it’s about experiencing nature in a way that feels completely different from anywhere else. Watching elephants roam freely, seeing a lion laze in the sun, or catching a glimpse of a leopard moving through the trees is something you won’t forget.
There are plenty of incredible places to go, whether it’s Serengeti National Park in Tanzania, Kruger National Park in South Africa, or Etosha National Park in Namibia. If seeing the Big Five is on your list, this is where you’ll find them.
June to October is the best time to visit when wildlife is easier to spot. In the Serengeti, you might even catch the Great Migration!

Dance At A Music Festival In Europe
A European summer is hard to beat, but adding a music festival to the mix adds the cherry on top!
Whether it’s dancing under the bright lights at Tomorrowland in Belgium, partying on the beach at Hideout in Croatia (one of my favourites!), or soaking up the legendary atmosphere at Glastonbury in England, there’s a festival for every music lover.

Discover the Beauty of Cinque Terre, Italy
If you’re heading to Europe this summer, Cinque Terre is probably on your bucket list, and for good reason. The colourful buildings perched along the cliffs overlooking the bright blue water look like something straight out of a travel brochure and will make you want to book your trip immediately!
Beyond the views, you can spend the day hiking between villages, exploring hidden coves, or just relaxing at the beach with an Aperol Spritz in hand. Sounds like the perfect summer day (in my opinion anyway!).

Go On A Summer Road Trip
I love a road trip anytime, but a summer road trip just hits differently! Long days, warm weather, and the freedom to go wherever the journey takes you, it doesn’t get much better if you ask me!
If you’re looking for an epic summer drive, Iceland is hard to beat, with the Ring Road taking you past glaciers, waterfalls, and volcanic landscapes under the Midnight Sun.
In the USA, you’ve got endless scenic routes, from the Pacific Coast Highway to the national parks of the Southwest. And if you make it to New Zealand, the South Island in summer is unreal for a road trip, especially when the lupins are in full bloom.
Just remember, New Zealand is in the Southern Hemisphere so their summer is at a different time of year from the Northern Hemisphere.

Do Adventure Sports In Queenstown, New Zealand
Speaking of New Zealand, what better way to spend the summer than in Queenstown, known as the adventure capital of the world? If you’re into adrenaline-fueled activities, this is the place to be.
Home to the world’s first commercial bungy jump, Queenstown has it all, bungy jumping, canyon swings, jet boating, skydiving, and more. I lived here for six months, and beyond the adventure sports, there’s plenty to explore nearby, from the stunning Milford Sound to the beautiful town of Wanaka.

Visit A Vineyard In Italy
Italy has a ton of wineries, and let’s be honest, they all look pretty amazing. But if you’re after some of the best, Tuscany is the place to visit. Rolling hills, cute little villages, and plenty of delicious wine make it an easy addition to any summer trip.
Tuscany is famous for wines like Chianti, Brunello di Montalcino, and Vino Nobile di Montepulciano, and there’s no shortage of vineyards where you can relax with a glass (or two).

Swim In Mexico’s Cenotes
Cenotes are natural sinkholes filled with fresh water, and they’re one of the best ways to cool off in Mexico. You’ll mostly find them scattered across the YucatĂ¡n Peninsula, often hidden in the jungle or tucked away in limestone caves.
Some of the most popular ones include Cenote Suytun, which has a stone walkway and a famous light beam photo spot, and Cenote Ik Kil, which is super close to ChichĂ©n ItzĂ¡.
I checked out Gran Cenote, and it was awesome! It had crystal clear water, plenty of space to swim, and loads of turtles just casually cruising around. Definitely one of my favourite things to do in Mexico.

Explore Banff National Park In Canada
Banff National Park is a big one on the bucket list if you’re heading to Canada in the summer, and once you see it, you’ll get why.
You’ve probably seen photos of Lake Louise with its insanely blue water surrounded by mountains and pine trees. It’s somewhere that looks almost too beautiful to be real.
There are loads of hikes to choose from, whether you’re into full-day adventures or something more relaxed. And when you’re done exploring, you can unwind in one of the natural hot springs, filled with mineral rich water and seriously good views.

See The Scottish Highlands
I’m a bit ashamed to admit it took me until I was 31 to finally visit the Scottish Highlands, and I’m from England! Safe to say, waiting that long was a mistake, especially with it being right on my doorstep.
The Highlands in summer are next-level beautiful. With rugged mountains, peaceful lochs, and winding roads that make you want to keep driving just to see what’s around the next bend. Spots like Glen Etive and the Isle of Skye are an absolute must.
If you can, rent a car and give yourself at least a week to explore, it’s the best way to see as much as possible at your own pace.

Dive The Great Barrier Reef
When I first moved to Australia, I was living near Cairns, which meant I was lucky enough to be close to the Great Barrier Reef.
I got to swim there a couple of times, and it honestly felt like stepping into another world. The coral and fish are incredibly colourful, and there’s so much marine life to spot, from turtles cruising by to the occasional reef shark and stingray!
If you’re into diving, it’s one of the best places to do it. But even if you’re just snorkelling (like me), you’ll still get an amazing look at what makes this place so special.

Hit the Clubs in Ibiza
Ok, so let’s be real, Ibiza is of course known for its legendary party scene, but there’s way more to the island than just clubs. That said, if you are into nightlife, this is the place to be.
From iconic beach clubs to massive nightclubs, there’s something happening every day and night, with different events, DJs, and vibes depending on where you go.
But if partying isn’t your thing, don’t write it off. Ibiza is beautiful in the summer. You can stroll through the old town, explore quiet beaches, or head to the Es Vedrà viewpoint for an epic sunset.
Whether you’re there for the music or just the summer vibes, Ibiza certainly has a bit of everything.

Go Whale Watching In Iceland
Although you can spot whales year-round in Iceland, summer is the best time to see them. As the waters around the island are nutrient rich, more whales migrate here to feed, making sightings much more common.
Humpback whales are the ones you’re most likely to see, but you might also spot dolphins, harbour porpoises, minke whales and occasionally if you’re really lucky orcas.
Tours run from places like ReykjavĂk, HĂºsavĂk, and Akureyri, so it’s easy to fit into your trip no matter where you’re based.
This is the tour that I went on from Reykjavik.

Relax At The Beach In Zanzibar
This is one I’m finally ticking off my bucket list this summer, and I seriously can’t wait.
There’s a lot to do in Zanzibar, whether you’re wandering through the streets of Stone Town (a UNESCO World Heritage Site), kayaking around coral reefs, or snorkelling in the Menai Bay Conservation Area.
Or you can just keep it simple and spend the day at Paje Beach, where the sand is soft, the water’s warm, and the pace is nice and slow.

Final Thoughts
Whether you’re into beach days, road trips, or once in a lifetime adventures, there’s something on this summer bucket list for every kind of traveller.
Pick a few, start planning, and make this summer one to remember. You never know, some of these might just end up being the highlight of your year. And if you don’t tick them all off? That’s just more reason to start planning next summer.
